Orifice is an 8-foot concrete piece that reimagines the human body by distorting its musculature and skeletal structure, rooted in anatomical knowledge.

The sculpture has a prominent hole stretching from the neck to the torso, framed by curving surfaces and recesses. This void embodies themes of secrecy, mystery, and hidden depths. its placement within the throat symbolizes the idea that, without language or speech, humanity remains enigmatic and unknowable.

A second face, sculpted on the reverse side of the upward-facing face, represents the introspective inner self contemplating its own depths.

After its gallery exhibition, Orifice was installed at an abandoned construction site near the Atlanta Beltline, a venue initially investigated by Denzel Stephenson. This location was chosen for its ability to evoke a sense of secrecy and mystery, aligning with the sculpture's conceptual intent. The exposed steel frames and rough concrete ground harmonized with the materiality of the concrete sculpture, offering ideal conditions to amplify the work's thematic and aesthetic resonance.
